A Start to Teen Weight Lifting

by Jake

If you're behooved about how to get started into weightlifting then read this article. First off for anyone who currently weight lifts or wants to get into weightlifting, you should purchase the book Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training by Mark Rippetoe and Lon Kilgore. This book will instruct you how to do basic compound lifts with great explanations and visuals. It will also give you an amazing starting novice routine for anyone to use that will give you great progress. Ask anyone who has the book, and they will tell you that it is the greatest book they have ever read on weightlifting. It is an essential for teens who want to pursue weightlifting.

In the future, you will want to buy Practical Programming by Mark Rippetoe and Lon Kilgore also. This book will give great detial on all concepts of weight lifting and portray the difference between stages of training from novice to elite. These are the best two books one can buy for weight lifting. They will alter the way you lift forever if you weight lift already, or they will get you on track if you are just beginning to weight lift.

Teens are probably thinking about supplements. For now you don't require any extras except a good ol' multivitamin in the morning. Training and diet needs to be focused on, especially diet. Without a well balanced diet, the training won't do anything. A variety of foods need to be eaten in all groups. You should try to consume about 1 gram of protein per lb. of bodyweight. For teens with a ecto or mesomorph body type I would suggest using the Zone Diet plus a cup of whole milk with each meal. Credit goes to Rippetoe for the milk suggestion. You would obviously have to make alterations week to week to see what works best for you exactly. To find out about the Zone Diet, search Google. Inevitably although, if you eat more calories than you burn, you will get bigger no matter what you eat. So as teens, just eat eat eat. This routine will be geared towards strength to create a base to build upon. If you eat enough you will get bigger while doing this routine. Diet and recovery will greatly affect your results. Aim for 8 hours of sleep a night.
